What's an Anti V-Day Cover Show
and what does it have to do with Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Anti V-Day Cover Shows were all the rage a little over 10 years ago, thanks to NYC and Philly based feminist collectives. They largely showcased riot grrrl or riot grrrl adjacent cover bands, and was a room filled with women-identified individuals screaming along to their favorite songs as one. It celebrated self-love over romantic love, and protested against the capitalist and heteronormative foundation of the hallmark holiday of Valentine's Day. Speaking of feminism, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's feminism is still considered disruptive in the standards of action television shows of today. Buffy is not only a Strong Female Character, but one who is a fully fleshed out character. She deals with grief, lust, vampires, sisterly bonding, a patriarchal Watchers' Council, and losing her virginity.
