How It Started
Buffy Prom is an annual anti V-day cover show and fundraiser for All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center. It's a collaborative event that highlights local musicians, acts as a fundraiser for reproductive justice and bodily autonomy in Bloomington, and serves as a celebration of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This event is rooted in the desire to create a space that celebrates DIY, all ages spaces, and community care.
Our first prom took place in February 2023. After Roe v. Wade was overturned, things were feeling pretty dismal, and we wanted to take some sort of action. Bloomington loves a cover show, and we love Buffy, so our own version of Buffy Prom was born. We wanted to support the only entity in Bloomington we knew of doing direct abortion work, so All-Options became our partner. They house the Hoosier Abortion Fund, in addition to many other programs. They receive all of the profit from Buffy Prom every year.
How It Works
Submissions open from Oct 15-Nov 30.
You devise your dream 90's/early 2000s band, enlist the help of your friends, and send us an email. We respond with a google form for you to fill out. Then you wait. Maybe you start practicing to get a head start.
We announce bands on Dec 1.
Five or six bands are selected. We do not give priority to any bands or individuals based on experience, perceived success, how many shows you've played before, or how 'good' you are -- we strive to give a wide variety of folks a chance to play at prom. This doesn’t mean that more established musicians will be excluded, but their ability won’t be prioritized, and we encourage them when putting together a band to invite less seasoned musicians to play with them.
Tickets go on sale the beginning of February,
available through Eventbrite. They are always sliding scale, with additional donations welcome.
Prom happens in mid-February at the I Fell Gallery in Bloomington, IN.
The date for 2025 is Saturday, Feb 22 at 6:30pm. It's always all-ages!
